Furthering its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) goals, ACER Philippines, in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Manila Metro, donated three computer sets to IQRA Kiddie Learning Center in Arlegui St. Quiapo, Manila.
On the first of July, ACER Philippines realized once again its goal of empowering people, through its General Manager and Rotary Club Manila Metro President, Mr. Manuel Wong. “We partnered with Rotary Club Manila Metro and chose IQRA as one of its beneficiaries through Acer’s generosity, because we find the school’s thrust meaningful. It doesn’t simply cater to education but also promotes understanding between different cultures and religion” Wong said.
ACER believes in empowering the community through Information Communication Technology (ICT). According to Mr. Manuel Wong, computer education is very basic for training the young. He added, “Young people have to be more exposed to computers. Teachers must also be equipped with the knowledge of using computers as a tool for educating students.”
IQRA, which literally means read in Arabic, is a non-stock, non-profit institution that undertakes the education of young Muslims in Quiapo. It was established by nine young Muslim women professionals who aim to alleviate poverty among Muslims children through education.
Atty. Maisara Dandamun-Latiph, president of IQRA, believes that the donated computers will help a lot in pursuing the school’s computer literacy program. She said, “The less-privileged young Muslim students will have comparable degree of computer knowledge, as compared with children studying in private and exclusive schools. “ The IQRA community (staff, students and parents), was grateful for the efforts exerted by ACER through its contribution. “ACER has done its part in our small community and I hope they will continue this effort.” Atty. Dandamun-Latiph added.
Aside from ACER’s computer donations, IQRA also received filing cabinets and educational toys from Rotary Club of Manila Metro. ACER has already lined-up their next CSR Activities for the year. The company plans to provide worthy institutions with assistance meant for sustainable development.
