No One is Invincible from Breast Cancer

Who said that you’re invincible from breast cancer?

Most may think that breast cancer can only occur to married women and ladies of older age. It is also apparent that most may share the notion that only women are vulnerable to the disease. However, these are all misconceptions. Women and men of any age or from any social strata may be afflicted with the disease.

There has been a continuous growth of people diagnosed with breast cancer. Furthermore, thousands of recorded deaths among Filipino women were caused by breast cancer.

Considering that no one is invincible from being troubled by breast cancer, it is indispensable for everyone to learn beyond the basics of the disease. Both facts and myths must be discerned, and information on preventive measures must also be acquired.

Believing that awareness and early detection are among the prudent ways to minimize the growing rate of breast cancer occurrences, the partnership of Philippine Foundation for Breast Cancer Care, Inc. (PFBCI) and Philippine Wacoal Corp. has been passionately pursuing its advocacy of keeping the public abreast of the pertinent issues and information about breast cancer.

Last year, PFBCI and Wacoal Corp officially launched their advocacy against breast cancer through the “Keep Abreast” campaign. The series of seminars provided vital information about breast cancer highlighting the idea that early detection is the most prudent move for successful treatment of the disease. Participants also acquired relevant anecdotes from breast cancer patients and survivors.

As a means of commemorating the breast cancer awareness month this October and fulfilling the partnership’s advocacy, PFBCI and Wacoal launched the 2nd year of the “Keep Abreast” campaign. “Keep Abreast” will run on three Saturdays of October: October 13 (9:00am) and 20 (2:00pm) at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati and October 27 (9:00am) at the Philippine Stock Exchange in Ortigas. Admission is free and open to the public.

While this is the second year for PFBCI and Wacoal to hold a series of breast cancer awareness seminars, they are now bringing this advocacy to a higher level by providing free breast check for interested participants. The goal is to have the participants leave the seminar armed with the right knowledge on breast cancer and how to detect it early so that the battle against it is already half won.

As Wacoal has always been sensitive to the needs of women, it continues its partnership with PFBCI in providing the public of substantial knowledge and insights about breast cancer. Together with PFBCI, Wacoal has relentless pursuits and undying commitment of serving the cause. It has realized that being beautiful is going beyond the physical aspects as wellness is an essential aspect of beauty. Thus, it believes that Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is significant move to help women in their quest for good life and beauty.

The reality that no one is invincible from Breast cancer poses a greater challenge on how we can value our lives better. It is our obligation to protect our lives against all dreadful diseases like the Big C. Only through information and awareness can we arm ourselves with audacity.

Let’s keep abreast and battle the Big C.
